Growing up in a multicultural home, language was often a barrier to connection. I was lucky to be introduced to watercolor at a young age by my mother's friend, Kyung Hee. Although we couldn't communicate through spoken word, we were able to connect sitting side by side, my paintbrush guided by hers. This is the gift that art gives us- it translates across cultures, it brings people together in a way that words aren't needed, it's the felt sense within the art that unites us.
After studying art at North Carolina School of the Arts, and continuing my education for what seems a lifetime, I spent time raising two beautiful and creative boys, who inspire me and encourage me to follow my dreams every day. Over the years of focusing so much on my family, I would celebrate any little moment I could get to sneak away and be in my happy place- painting vibrant and whimsical flowers, bugs, butterflies, and animals. And now that life has started to quiet down, I'm being called home again to what makes me feel alive, what connects me to myself and others- using watercolors to communicate the unspoken beauty of nature and all of her magic.
